Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded green cabbage
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro (for shrimp and garnish)
  • 2 limes, cut into wedges (for juice and serving)
  • For the Avocado Crema:
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Avocado Crema: Combine the avocado, Greek yogurt, lime juice, and salt in a small food processor or blender. Blend until completely smooth. Set aside.
  2. Season the Shrimp: In a medium bowl, toss the shrimp with olive oil, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Cook the Shrimp: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned shrimp in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Remove from heat. Squeeze the juice of half a lime over the hot shrimp and toss with half of the chopped cilantro.
  4. Warm Tortillas: Warm the tortillas according to package directions, either in a dry skillet, microwave, or wrapped in foil in the oven.
  5. Assemble Tacos: Layer each warm tortilla with shredded cabbage, the cooked shrimp, a drizzle of the avocado crema, and a sprinkle of the remaining fresh cilantro.
  6. Serve immediately with extra lime wedges on the side.

Notes

  • For a spicier taco, add 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika or a pinch of cayenne pepper to the shrimp seasoning mix.
  • If you do not have Greek yogurt, you can substitute it with sour cream or mayonnaise for the crema, though the calorie count will increase.
  • To make this a low calorie shrimp taco option, use corn tortillas and skip any added oil when warming them.
