Ingredients
Scale
1 large head of broccoli, cut into uniform florets
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon olive oil
1/4 teaspoon dried dill
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
Pinch of salt
Pinch of black pepper
Instructions
Prepare the broccoli by cutting the head into bite-sized florets. Rinse the florets under cold water.
Place the water in a large skillet or pot that has a tight-fitting lid. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
Place the broccoli florets in a steamer basket over the boiling water. Cover the pot tightly with the lid.
Steam the broccoli for 4 to 6 minutes. Check a piece after 4 minutes; you want it tender but still firm (tender-crisp).
While the broccoli steams, whisk together the lemon juice, olive oil, dill, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl to create the drizzle.
Carefully remove the steamer basket from the pot. Place the steamed broccoli in a serving bowl.
Drizzle the lemon herb mixture evenly over the hot broccoli. Toss gently to coat. Serve immediately as a healthy dinner side.
Notes
For a restaurant-style flavor similar to garlic parmesan broccoli, substitute the lemon drizzle ingredients with 1 tablespoon of melted butter, 1 clove of minced garlic, and 1 tablespoon of grated Parmesan cheese, added after steaming.
If you do not have a steamer basket, you can place the florets directly into the boiling water and cook for 3-4 minutes, then drain immediately.
Microwave steaming is faster: Place florets and 2 tablespoons of water in a microwave-safe bowl, cover loosely, and cook on high for 3-4 minutes.
