Create decadent, fudgy brownies with a creamy peanut butter swirl. This recipe uses simple ingredients to achieve bakery-style results with a beautiful marbled top.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup (30g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup (125g) creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar (for swirl)
  • 1 large egg (for swirl)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for swirl)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter and 1 cup of sugar until combined.
  3. Whisk in the 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
  4. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing only until just combined. Do not overmix the brownie batter.
  6. Prepare the peanut butter swirl mixture: In another small bowl, combine the 1/2 cup peanut butter, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 egg, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  7. Pour half of the chocolate brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  8. Dollop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture over the chocolate layer.
  9. Pour the remaining chocolate batter over the peanut butter layer.
  10. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the two batters together to create a marbled effect. Do not mix completely.
  11. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. A toothpick inserted near the edge should come out with moist crumbs attached, not wet batter.
  12. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment overhang. Cut into 16 squares.

Notes

  • For the fudgiest texture, avoid baking longer than necessary. The center should still look slightly underdone when you remove them.
  • If your peanut butter is stiff, microwave it for 15 seconds to make swirling easier.
  • Use creamy peanut butter for the best swirl consistency; avoid natural, oily varieties for this step.
