Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar (for batter)
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted (for batter)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons (10g) baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5g) salt
  • For the cinnamon sugar coating:
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup (57g) unsalted butter, melted (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 cup of granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix them together only until just combined. Do not overmix the batter.
  5. Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan.
  6. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. While the bread bakes, prepare the coating. In a small bowl, combine the 1/2 cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon for the coating.
  8. When the bread comes out of the oven, let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
  9. While the bread is still warm, brush the top generously with the 1/4 cup of melted butter reserved for the coating.
  10. Immediately sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the buttered top.
  11. Let the bread cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • For an extra donut flavor, you can gently swirl 1/3 of the cinnamon sugar mixture into the batter before baking.
  • Serve this sweet breakfast bread warm with a smear of butter for the best experience.
  • This recipe makes a moist quick bread that is excellent for gifting.
