Ingredients
Scale
1 (8 ounce) wheel of Brie cheese, rind intact
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed according to package directions
2 tablespoons fig jam or apricot preserves
1 large egg, beaten with 1 teaspoon water (for egg wash)
Optional: 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Optional: Crackers, apple slices, or baguette for serving
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
If using, lightly sprinkle chopped nuts onto the center of the thawed puff pastry sheet.
Place the wheel of Brie cheese directly on top of the nuts, centered on the pastry.
Spoon the fig jam evenly over the top surface of the Brie wheel.
Bring the edges of the puff pastry up and over the cheese, meeting in the center above the jam. Trim any excess pastry, leaving about a half-inch overlap.
Pinch the seams together firmly to seal the pastry completely around the cheese. If you want a decorative top, you can score the top lightly with a knife, avoiding cutting through to the cheese.
Carefully flip the wrapped Brie seam-side down onto the prepared baking sheet.
Brush the entire surface of the pastry package evenly with the egg wash. This helps it brown nicely.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed. The cheese inside should be melted and soft when gently pressed.
Remove from the oven and let it rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a serving platter.
Serve immediately with crackers or fruit for dipping.
Notes
For a crispier bottom crust, you can chill the wrapped brie for 15 minutes before brushing with egg wash and baking.
If you prefer a savory option, replace the jam with a tablespoon of pesto and a sprinkle of fresh thyme before sealing.
This appetizer is best served warm, immediately after resting.
