Make perfectly crispy halloumi cheese fries in your air fryer. This quick recipe uses a light coating to achieve a golden brown exterior without deep frying.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces halloumi cheese
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil spray

Instructions

  1. Cut the halloumi block into sticks, approximately 1/2 inch thick. Pat the sticks very dry with paper towels. This step helps prevent sticking.
  2. In a shallow dish, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper. This is your best coating for air frying cheese.
  3. Lightly dust each halloumi stick in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. You want a thin, even coating.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 3 minutes.
  5. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray. Arrange the coated halloumi sticks in a single layer in the basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; work in batches if necessary.
  6. Lightly spray the tops of the halloumi sticks with the olive oil spray.
  7. Air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping the sticks halfway through the cooking time, until they are golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove immediately from the air fryer and serve hot with your preferred dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can chill the coated halloumi sticks in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before air frying.
  • Do not skip drying the cheese; excess moisture prevents the coating from adhering properly.
  • If you do not have smoked paprika, use regular paprika or a pinch of cayenne pepper for a little heat.
